Paraffin Tissue Microarrays (TMAs) are becoming more common in the laboratory community. Current techniques for organizing, punching and inserting tissues are time consuming, extremely hard to construct, especially controlling punch insertion not to mention, the instruments are expensive.

With the ever-increasing need for cost effective protocols in the laboratory, the next step is obvious. How or when will there be a frozen arrays?

Punching frozen embedding medium (OCT) is the most common concept for creating frozen arrays. OCT is extremely dense when frozen and current array needles were developed for paraffin punching. If this method were to be used then the needles would need to be warmed and cooled for punching and insertion. There is another option that is far less expensive, easier, and much faster to construct TMAs.
